It started the way most good ideas do — with frustration. We booked sitters for our own dogs and kept hitting the same wall: platforms that optimized for speed, not fit. The nearest available sitter, not the right one. No personality matching. No real health context. Just a transaction.

So two of us became sitters ourselves — not as research theater, but because we needed to feel the failure from the inside. We found exactly what we feared: volume rewarded over care, and zero tools to do the job well.

The gap wasn't a feature request. It was a category failure. Nobody had built pet care around the pet.

Artemis Petconnect is four founders who wrote the checks themselves. We're a marine biologist turned AI strategist, a PhD data scientist who built federal AI systems, a production engineer who's also an active sitter, and a brand strategist who lived the trust problem from the sitter's side.

We named the company after the Greek goddess who protects animals. We named our AI companion Kynos — from kynos, the ancient Greek word for dog. Because this was always about them.
